Have you booked a flight?

We took our girls to IFLY in Yonkers, NY before covid hit. IFLY has locations all across the USA. Have you been? It’s a real blast! It’s basically indoor skydiving in a wind tunnel. When we were there we saw people of all ages trying it out from the young to the old. Phil and our girls took a an orientation class when they first arrived and then they got suited up with a flight suit and helmet. They were nervous but excited. Everyone stands around the tunnel and watches each person take their turn. Which is helpful so you can get a feel for what to expect when it’s your turn. Each flight lasts around 60 seconds. You start off slow with a flight instructor who can help correct your form and assist you when you need help moving around and then they slowly show you how to go up the tunnel. The flight instructors also take a turn in the tunnel by themselves so you can watch someone advanced. It is really cool to see them flip and fly really fast like superheros! Plan to be there about 60-90 minutes total. They even do birthday parties! I couldn’t participate since my shoulder likes to dislocate but I had a great time watching my family! It’s not scary and a lot of fun! If you are ever looking for something different to do check this place out!

Bingeing right now

Sometimes you have to let things go. The escalating costs of cable were too much for us. Just before COVID started, we decided to cut the cord and resorted to streaming services to fill the media hole. It wasn’t easy, because you have to fully commit to trying the new way while fully letting go of the old way in order to reduce the costs since it’s far too easy to subscribe to streaming AND keep cable. The only thing that we sometimes miss is the occasional live awards show only available on a network channel, but if you really need it, you can buy a month of a live network channel for a pretty low price. Hulu and Netflix is where we landed for streaming.

Here are some fun shows we are hooked on…

Renee’s picks:

HULU- Younger, Being Erica, Little Fires Everywhere, Married, Mr. D, The Handmaid’s Tale

Netflix- Schitt$ Creek, Imposters, Dead to Me, The Stranger, Ozark

Phil’s picks:

HULU- Rick and Morty, Fear the Walking Dead

Netflix- Blood of Zeus, Baki

8 is great!

Our little Daisy turned 8 this past week! We sang happy birthday to her and gave her a few presents…one gift was from her daycare! The day before her birthday she went to her favorite doggie daycare called Wag Central to hang out with her friends and get a bath! We discovered this wonderful place when we moved to town and we are so fortunate that it’s nearby! It is incredibly clean, spacious, offers all kinds of classes, has a swimming pool, a groomer and a cute retail shop and doggie cafe! It is pretty incredible! I am glad that daycare helps her socialize with other dogs too! When she attends they always text me a photo of her during the day…I attached one here of her actually smiling! If you have a local doggie daycare consider bringing your dog…there are so many benefits. We’ve been taking her once a week. Daisy used to be reluctant to go inside but now she runs in and when I pick her up she is fully tired from all the fun she had all day long! Makes my ❤️ happy!!

The rice cake: made better with chocolate?

What fitness endeavor hasn’t eventually come across the rice cake? It is simple, low calorie, crunchy and tasty. Its most subtle and perhaps most important point of appeal for the fitness minded is that there is a lot of it to munch on for so few calories. In other words it is high on the, “best bang for your buck,” scale of snack satisfaction. Enter Quaker’s Chocolate Rice Cakes. Like many products, they look chocolatey and boast chocolate pieces in them (each cake is 60 calories, with 1g protein, 1g fat and 12g carbs). Quaker does it differently and their execution is spot on. The chocolate flavor is just right for the rice cake, but the real finesse is from the chocolate pieces. They are not merely the random flat broken pieces or chunks that you see in many other snacks. They are small peppercorn-sized pebbles that have just the right toothy bite and burst of sweetness. They are sometimes alone and sometimes clustered, giving variety to each encounter. Their distribution and amount on the cake is good too – never just on one side or otherwise absent. Our family is constantly fighting over them and we can’t seem to keep enough in the pantry. Well done Quaker!

Yummmm

Happy Easter, Happy Spring, Happy Happy Everything!

Easter baskets, chocolate bunnies, colored eggs, pretty dresses & fancy shoes were some of the things my girls looked forward to each Easter! When my girls were little we probably went to 3-5 egg hunts each year. I know…it’s a lot! The girls had a blast though! I would plan something holiday related to do each weekend leading up to Easter. We loved the New Canaan Nature Center’s egg hunt and the town of Rowayton, CT has a good one too but that was geared towards real little kids. The Young Women’s League of New Canaan puts on a fantastic celebration at Waveny Park with bounce houses, the Easter bunny, a huge egg hunt, a bake sale and face painting. We attended one event where a helicopter dropped thousands of eggs onto a field but it was sort of chaotic and not geared for little ones. I always kept my eye out for local fun events via marypoppins.com, the local paper, libraries and ctparent.com to name just a few!

Here are some pics from one of our previous Easter celebrations. Party City has always been my local go to, I also like Michaels, Palmers in Darien, Etsy and Ebay is my favorite for my daughter’s outfits! Do you have a favorite crafty way that you incorporate into your holiday? Drop a line or share a pic! I’d love to see it! Wishing you all an egg-citing day!!

Protein Cookie first look: the NuGo Perfect Cookie

The NuGo Perfect Cookie is a product made by NuGo that I haven’t seen before, so I picked up a couple to see how they are. I bought the Dark Chocolate Chip Cookie and the Double Dark Chocolate Chip Cookie.

NuGo’s main selling points appears to be that they are packed with plant-based protein and are low in sugar and have low net carbs (7 grams and 5 grams net carbs respectively). The packaging also says they are non-GMO, vegan, gluten-free and keto friendly. They each have 190 calories. I usually expect protein cookies to be more dry and more dense than regular cookie. That was the case here. The chocolate chips are the tiny variety and I didn’t feel that they were lacking. Each tasted just sufficiently like a regular cookie so that if I wanted a cookie as a treat, but I still didn’t want to blow my nutritional goals, then I could have one of these to satisfy my sweet tooth. Other protein cookies often still have a lot of sugar or total carbs, but the NuGo Protein cookies keep the net carbs low by using fiber and sugar alcohol (erythritol, specifically). They are also sweetened with Stevia. I would get these again should the need for a cookie arise.

Small Changes…Big Impact!

We moved into our new home two years ago. Time really flies! My youngest daughter was so excited to decorate her new room. We really worked hard on it and it turned out great! The theme was black, gold, grey and white. Two years later she tells me that she wishes it looked different and then she showed me her ideas. The theme was turquoise, royal and white. Very different than before! I was less than thrilled because I thought her room looked great and it had only been a couple of years! But, I understood that she felt the room wasn’t exactly her and so I obliged. But, we had to do it inexpensively. So, we bought some spray paint and changed up some of her furniture and we painted the walls white and we bought these super fun wall decals! There were so many to choose from but we landed on these turquoise palm trees online and they really are perfect! And the best part is that they are inexpensive and peel off very easily! The next time she wants to redo her room the decals can be changed out for the next new theme and you know what? I don’t think I’ll be as bothered. Sometimes small changes can make a big impact and changing up your room is part of growing up and finding yourself!
